The Boathouse Canberra is one of Canberra’s most scenic wedding locations, presiding right on the edge of Lake Burley Griffin.
About The Boathouse Canberra
The Boathouse in Canberra has been a staple along Lake Burley Griffin for a couple of decades now, and is one of my favourite wedding venues in Canberra. The best part about The Boathouse Canberra is it’s easy access from the city, yet remote and private feel.
The Boathouse Canberra is the perfect wedding venue for you, if you:
- Love the idea of a cocktail style wedding, where guests can wander and enjoy each other’s company freely
- You want to get married in Canberra and have some of the most iconic monuments in Canberra in view
- Want the feel of a country escape in the city
- Want the perfect spot to enjoy a city sunset
Featuring a host of different rooms, an outdoor area for ceremonies and drinks, The Boathouse Canberra should definitely be considered if you’re looking to have a wedding in Canberra.
Rebecca and Jacob’s Boathouse Wedding
If I had to sum this day up, the word ‘classy AF’ would be the one…ok two words I would use to describe it. From Rebecca’s stunning dress to the car she arrived in, right up to the first dance Rebecca and Jacob shared.
The Boat House is one of Canberra’s most gorgeous waterfront wedding venues. From its wooden floors to the rustic fireplace, this slice of aquatic life has everything you’ll need for your classy but rustic wedding. The Boat House also looks out onto Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra, meaning you get these insane views of the water, which always look epic at sunset.
Rebecca and Jacob found me a while ago as they were looking for a photographer who has a candid and relaxed style. Well, this is me all over, and once I heard about their big plans for their wedding day, I was rapt! We had a chat about the best places for couples photos, and they also wanted to have a first look.
First looks are fantastic if you’re looking for that way for you both to be able to really experience how the other one looks, without the onlooking of your guests. I highly recommend them for couples who want to keep things more low key or who don’t enjoy being the centre of attention all the time.
Meeting Rebecca on the day at her family home was magic. The whole vibe of the room was exciting, and her bridesmaids were doing the best thing possible and getting the macarons and champagne flowing.
We then headed off to the Hyatt Hotel in Canberra for their first look. The Hyatt has this perfect little courtyard that is absolutely perfect for having that chance to see each other for the first time. That first look is something so special as it really sums up that ‘holy shit, we’re doing this!’ moment, which is incredible.
When you have a first look, it also gives you a little bit of time to have your couples photos before the ceremony. We spent the time at the Rose Gardens by Old Parliament House. I love the vast landscapes and curated gardens that these spots offer, especially for couples who want that feeling of a garden in the city.
When it came to the ceremony, this The Boat House Canberra Wedding was framed so perfectly by the gorgeous wooden boards that the boathouse has. Tears were shed, and it totally rocked!
To finish off the day, sunset images were captured right outside the Boat House. Yet again another awesome thing about The Boat House Canberra is that it has the perfect scene for when the sun goes down!
My favourite part of this whole day was definitely the moment Rebecca stepped out of the car and her dad shed a tear or few. That kind of emotion is so precious, and you just can’t fake it.
Enjoy these images from the day!
