A Vineyard, a Golf Buggy, and a Cavoodle Ring Bearer – Claire & Jerry’s Tallagandra Hill Winery Wedding
Jerry was standing in the Tallagandra Hill Winery vineyard, looking out over the open Southern Tablelands countryside, when Claire tapped him on the shoulder. She’d arrived on the estate’s golf buggy – the Winery’s way of moving people between its scattered spaces on the property – and the moment that followed was quiet, private, and entirely theirs. That first look, out in the vineyard rows with the spring light and the NSW landscape stretching beyond, set the tone for a Tallagandra Hill Winery wedding that was warm, playful, and full of real feeling.
Getting Ready
Jerry started the morning in the Prodigal Daughter – one of Tallagandra’s heritage sheds, repurposed into a getting-ready space that sits apart from the main house with enough room for a small group to spread out without feeling crowded. Relaxed, unhurried, his mates alongside him. The kind of getting-ready morning where you’re not watching the clock because there’s no reason to.
Claire was across the property, having her look put together by Melissa Makeup Artistry, her Maggie Sottero dress waiting. One detail worth noting: Claire had pinned a small “Yes” badge to her dress – the Australian Aboriginal Recognition Vote was held on 14 October 2023, and she’d chosen to carry that into the day quietly. A small thing, personal and considered, that said something about who she is.
The First Look
The golf buggy brought Claire out to the vineyard rows where Jerry was waiting. She tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around.
That’s the whole sequence, and it’s enough. What happened in the minute after that – the two of them just looking at each other, with nothing between them and the landscape – is what a first look in the right setting does when you let it breathe. No structure around it, no crowd, just the vineyard and the open sky and the two of them taking stock of the day ahead.

After the first look we worked our way around the property – down to the lake, under the large mature trees that line the water’s edge, pausing at the spots that caught the spring light well. Tallagandra’s landscape is rural NSW in the best sense: the kind of countryside that doesn’t require any styling because it’s already doing the work.

Tallagandra’s barrel room is one of the reasons this venue photographs differently to most. The grand interior is lined with oak barrels, and in the afternoon when the light comes through at the right angle, the whole space goes warm and textured in a way that takes almost no effort to shoot well. Rich, layered, and completely specific to a working winery – you can’t fake what’s in that room with styling alone.

The Tallagandra Hill Winery Wedding Ceremony
The ceremony brought everyone together outside in the open air, friends and family gathered around the couple in the afternoon warmth. Jerry was waiting when Claire arrived – and so was their Cavoodle, fully committed to ring bearer duties and completely unaware of how much goodwill that was generating from the crowd.
Celebrant Kiki held the ceremony well – the balance of emotion and warmth that makes a legal ceremony feel like it belongs to the people in it rather than to the paperwork. The guests were fully present and celebratory throughout.
The Reception
As the sun descended, everyone moved inside. The golden late-afternoon light fell across the barrel room as Claire and Jerry made their formal entrance down the staircase to cheers from the room. Bella’s Feast had set up a wholesome, rustic country spread that sat exactly right in the winery setting. Speeches followed – heartfelt, funny, properly moving.
A photo booth ran as the sun finished setting, giving guests somewhere to be while the mood shifted from dinner to dancing. The cake was cut – Ayeisha Oorloff’s work – and then a smoke machine and spotlight were set up for couple portraits before the first dance. That combination, inside the barrel room, with the oak and the warm tones already doing their work, produced exactly the kind of atmospheric shots the space is built for.
The first dance opened the floor, and it stayed open. Tabitha Hart had the room from that point forward – friends and family dancing, wine flowing, the warmth of Tallagandra wrapping around the whole evening.
